Are you saying you can't download such a file because you don't have that much free disk space available or because your FTP client won't download files that big?

If so, these are problems for you. I understand that these are genuine practical issues, but they are not shared by everyone, and there are significant additional complications involved to split the big files and have users rejoin them before working with them.

It's important not to overstate the scope of the problem because it's useful to separate between problems that need to be addressed server-side (which will affect every user) versus local problems which boil down to telling users to get more disk space and a better FTP client (perhaps a recent wget would help); video editing is a big proposition.
